Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO)
Think Safety is an approved Training Centre
What does the course entail?
Lockout/tagout (LOTO) is a safety procedure used to ensure that dangerous machines or equipment are properly shut off and cannot be started up again until maintenance or repair work is completed. The primary purpose of LOTO is to protect workers from the unexpected release of hazardous energy, such as electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, or thermal energy, while they are servicing or maintaining equipment.
The process involves two main components:
- Lockout: Physically locking the energy-isolating devices (such as switches, valves, or circuit breakers) to prevent the release of hazardous energy. A lock is applied by the worker who is performing maintenance, and only they hold the key to the lock.
- Tagout: A tag is placed on the energy-isolating device to warn others that the equipment is being serviced and should not be operated. While a tag doesn’t physically prevent operation, it serves as a visual alert to others working in the area.
Participants will be issued with a three-year certificate of attendance from Think Safety.
